Super 8 Film Workshop l Supported by Purin Pictures

Super 8 Film Workshop was born of the initiative of artists and filmmakers who were interested in working with analog film, with Rolling Wild as a workshop organiser. The project is funded by Purin Pictures and is supported by Film Archive (Public Organisation).
This hands-on learning experience was thought as a pilot project to help participants develop skills to be able to work with analog film autonomously. In making this practice an accessible creative option for artists and filmmakers, the project intends to preserve and sustain analog filmmaking practices in this digital era.
The three-days workshop was participated by 12 invited and open call artists and filmmakers. Each participant was given one Super 8 film roll to learn the complete process of analog filmmaking –from the use of the camera, to hand processing, to basic editing and projection. The workshop ended with a special one day visit to the film-related operations at the Film Archive, with a comparative screening of the participants’ films between the original films and the HD transferred copies (scanned by the Film Archive).
The workshop was followed by public screening events; the Exhibition Showcase at Josh Hotel (12-16 Feb 22), as a part of Bangkok Design Week 2022, and the Performative Screening at 469 Phra Sumen Road (22 Feb 22), a special event which allowed the workshop participants and guest artists and filmmakers to experiment and explore the possibilities of the film medium through different creative presentations.
